Reflexology is frequently confused with foot massage which can be performed by anyone without any qualifications. On the other hand, a reflexologist has undergone over 200 hours of training and has carried out over 100 hours of practice to attain their qualification. Reflexologists are able to understand different health conditions and tailor a treatment to your specific needs.
Reflexology is a therapy based on the scientific principal that there are reflexes in the feet and the hands that correspond to different glands and organs in the body. A reflexologist will apply pressure techniques to the different reflex points in order to bring the body back into balance, and this is achieved through a series of movements using the thumb and the index finger.
In fact, there is a considerable volume of research attesting to its efficacy in treating a myriad of physical and emotional problems.
The first appointment with a reflexologist begins with a short interview to take the medical history and life style of the client followed by a visual examination in order to design a treatment which is tailored to the client’s needs.
Maternity Reflexology
Reflexology during your pregnancy aims to improve your physical and emotional health and well being by working on specific reflexology points either on your the feet or hands.
Maternity Reflexology helps to decrease common complaints such as nauseas, sleepiness, back ache, constipation, piles, and allows you to relax during this important period of a woman life.
The initial consultation will enable me to assess if there are no contraindications for you to receive the treatment and tailor it to your specific needs.
This therapy can only be provided by a reflexologist who has undergone the necessary training and carried out the required hours of case practice. It is a good idea to request to see the practitioner’s qualifications to ensure that your treatment is provided by a qualified professional who has the knowledge and the experience to do so. Reflexology for Fertility
There are a number of couples who have tried different fertility treatments such as IVF over several years without achieving a positive outcome. In some of these cases couples have turned to reflexology as a more natural approach to addressing their problem. As a result some women have achieved a pregnancy after a series of treatments which might include treatments for the partners too.
It is known that reflexology assists in many ways, especially bringing the whole body back into balance. This is especially important since trying to achieve a pregnancy creates a lot of stress on the couple. It is also known to have positive effects in regulating menstrual cycles which also increase the couple's chances to achieve a pregnancy.
Reflexology Lymph Drainage (RLD)
RLD is an award winning reflexology technique which focuses on stimulating the lymphatic reflexes on the feet. The aim is to cause an effect on the lymphatic system in the body. This reflexology sequence has been researched and developed by Sally Kay BSc(Hons), whilst working in Cancer Care.
This technique is used to treat lymphoedema resulting from breast cancer treatment. Lymphoedema is defined as tissue swelling due to the failure of lymph drainage. After breast cancer, a person may experience difficulties due to altered body image, and a swollen limb can exacerbate this.
RLD can be also used to treat other conditions such as arthritis, asthma, eczema, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, ME, sinus problems, migraines,headaches, muscular tension, aches and pains and pre-menstrual syndrome.
